Polish Touches: Recipes and Traditions: Polish Americans Coast to Coast
In the late 1980s, twenty-three years ago, we were asked to compile a small book about Polish Americans for a New York publisher. Research for that book Polish-American Ways, took us from Chicago to the East Coast. Of special help was Jacek Nowakowski, a Polish immigrant, whose essays and recipes are still included in the newest edition of Polish Touches.
By 1996, the rights for reprinting were returned to us. We expanded the size of the original book, changed the title, and published Polish Touches in 1996. Polish Touches was selected as a premium for a national public television program about Polish Americans. Now in a new century, we are expanding the information in the second edition of Polish Touches.
The Internet, less than twenty years old, features Polish Americans and Polish Canadians in dozens of entries. There are fresh facts featuring centers, museums, and educational opportunities keeping heritage and history alive. This book offers an overview of the lives of the almost ten million Americans and almost one million Canadians with Polish roots. -Joan Liffring-Zug Bourret
