WE REMEMBER

For the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, the Polish Museum of America was given a grant from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the offices of the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Chicago. It was decided that this was the last opportunity to interview those participants and survivors of those two months of “Blood and Glory” (according to the hymn of the 1830-31 Uprising) as well as terror. Mr. Pawel Grajnert conducted the interviews. Mr. Tadeusz Gubala was instrumental in finding and persuading those Varsovians to participate. In order to make the Polish experience open to a larger audience, the material was translated and subtitled into English. In addition to enriching the Polish Museum of America’s exhibit on the Warsaw Uprising, each participant received a copy of all the interviews for their family. A copy of the whole project was given to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to the Museum of the Uprising in Warsaw, which had interviewed only three of our participants earlier. The film is available on YouTube, and we hope to make it available to other documentary film festivals.
