On Monday, March 11, we hosted a group of students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The Sites and Sounds of Eastern Europe class, under the leadership of Assistant Professor Katarzyna Grochowska, PhD, explored the collections of The Polish Museum of America, with special attention given to mementos and achievements of Maestro Ignacy Jan Paderwski, historic sites and iconic masterpieces, like the monumental painting “Reminiscence of Childhood- Charge of the Circassians down Krakowskie Przedmieście” by Wojciech Kossak (1891); Princess Maria Leszczyńska Royal Sleigh from 1703, or the legendary Winged Hussar armor. Students admired selected artifacts, among them: Lucjan Kintopf Loom from the section of Inventions at the 1939 New York World’s Fair, Art Deco “Four Seasons” paintings by Irena Pokrzywnicka from the section of the Textiles at the Fair, NYWF violins, traditional Polish folk costumes, Kraków Christmas Crèches, and many more. The tour was led by the PMA Curator Julita Siegel, and supplemented with the course information by Prof. Grochowska. Young scholars really enjoyed the collections, visited the PMA Gift Shop, and expressed interest in returning and learning more. Thank you for this great visit! Dziękujemy!
