May 18 marks the 79th anniversary of the 1944 Battle of Monte Cassino in which Polish forces, under the command of Gen. Władysław Anders played a prominent role. The Polish 2 Corps broke the German defensive lines and opened the road for the Allies to liberate Rome from German occupation.
