March 31 marks the birth anniversary of Mieczysław Haiman (1888–1949), the first curator of the PMA.

A key figure in American Polonia, Haiman documented the history of Polish immigration to the U.S. in both Polish and English. He highlighted Poles' contributions to the War of Independence and the Civil War and was the first to reveal that Poles were among Jamestown's earliest settlers in 1608.
